Dieffenbachias consists of about 30 tropical plants native to Columbia, Brazil, Costa Rica, Puerto Rico, and the West Indies. They are easy houseplants that tolerate a wide range of conditions. These plants are prevalent everywhere, in homes and offices, for their colorful, large leaves. They have large, white-variegated leaves carried on upright stems that brighten this relatively soft plant.
Dieffenbachia Compacta is a more compact-growing plant, compared to other varieties. Its cream-colored leaves are brightly mottled with green, and it has a full growth habit, making her ideal for areas of the home or office where space is limited.
Dieffenbachias will overgrow in ideal conditions or barely at all if the light is low. It needs indirect or bright-diffused light and low humidity.
Dieffenbachias enjoy average warm household temperatures. Temperatures from 16 to 24°C are ideal. Always protect dieffenbachias from cold and significant temperature changes.
Make sure you'll forget to water her and maintain soil on the dryer side. Soak the soil thoroughly, then allow it to become dry again before the next watering. Water regularly from spring to autumn, and only sparingly in winter. Overwatering and stem rot are the most common problems, especially at temperatures.
As the plant matures, the lower leaves naturally drop to reveal the attractive trunklike stem. If the stems become too long, you can refresh the plant by cutting the stems back to about 6 inches (14 cm) tall. The plant will regrow below the cut.
The plant is 30 cm tall, and it's shipped in a 12 cm pot.
