“Melanochrysum” means “black gold” …apparently describing the tiny sparkles on the leaves when the plant is in the sunlight, that created the nickname the “Black Gold Philodendron”.
Iridescent black-green with pale green veins highlight this already impressive aroid. P. melanochrysum is found naturally from Columbia into Ecuador and down to Peru and is known to be variable.
He is a spectacular vining philodendron that when mature produces 1 m long leaves of iridescent black-green with pale green veins.
This rare velvety aroid starts small, but as it matures the leaves will continue to get longer. Its juvenile form creeps along the jungle floor and has small 5-10 cm round leaves. Once it begins to climb a tree or other vertical object, the leaves increase in size and come into their full glory.
The Melano needs 1-1,5 m of vertical growing space to develop into its mature form. We recommend putting it on a moss pole to encourage ideal growth.
He prefers to be grown in warm temperatures and indirect lighting near a window.
The plant is approx 30 cm tall, and will be shipped in a 15 cm pot.
